Methods & sources

Everything is pulled from public, free sources by scripts/fetch_all.py; raw pulls are archived under data/raw/<source>/<date>.

How corridors are defined

Records are matched by street name + address-number range + city (see scripts/corridors.py). Map outlines are approximate and for display only.

What each date means

ABC issue date – "Type Orig Iss Date" in the ABC export: when the license type was originally issued. Not an opening date.
ABC application on file – records flagged APP; the daily export carries no filing date.
LA registered start / end date – self-reported location start/end date in the LA Office of Finance registry. May be back-dated or future-dated; not a verified opening/closing.
Permit issue / entered date – from LADBS or Santa Monica Building & Safety.
Santa Monica license snapshot – no dates in source; changes are first-seen/last-seen dates from our nightly diff.

Contributors

Readers can send tips and corrections from any corridor page. Every tip is checked against public records (ABC filings, business registrations, permits) before publication; unverified tips are never published as fact. Contributors who tick "credit me publicly" will be thanked by name here.

Excluded on purpose

No CoStar, LoopNet or Crexi data is fetched, scraped or republished. Brokerage figures that cite CoStar as their data source are not quoted.
